Fans of Tom Hanks know that he was one of the first celebrities to reveal his COVID-19 diagnosis near the start of the pandemic back in March. Earlier this year, the actor also announced he was lending blood to an organization as part of an effort to battle the coronavirus.

As it was previously reported, Hanks revealed his first plasma donation around one month ago. At the time, he took to his social media to say it was as easy as “taking a nap.” As it was noted above, Tom and his wife, Rita Wilson, 63, announced their COVID-19 diagnosis in March.

And just a month and a half later, they revealed they were going to donate blood to help out those in need. During his appearence on NPR’s podcast, Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!, Hanks revealed he would be doing his part in fighting the coronavirus.

On the show, Hanks said to the host that he and his wife learned they had the anti-bodies after their struggle with COVID-19. They were down in Australia filming a movie about Elvis Presley when they found out they had it. As a result, both Hanks and Wilson were hospitalized and put in quarantine until their release just a few weeks later.

They then returned to the United States and had to stay in isolation. According to Tom, Wilson had the virus a lot worse than he did. Rita had a terrible fever and other more severe symptoms, including the loss of taste and smell.

The Cast Away actor explained that she wasn’t able to enjoy any food for almost a month. These days, however, Rita and Tom are fully recovered and doing well. Tom and Rita aren’t the only celebrities to be diagnosed with the virus either.
