In an interview with GQ, Hayek talked about how she was typecast in the past. She says that she was only given sexy roles, and worked hard for people to see her as more than one thing. "I'm at a place in my life where I don't think my sexuality is the only thing that's appreciated anymore," she says. "But if it was, I wouldn't care, because I've built enough respect around me from the people that really matter that I feel seen beyond that."
Hayek is very grateful for her life, and talked about this in an interview with Holmes Place. "Well, I feel very lucky. I think I have achieved a lot of things at my age. I think I am very, very, lucky because I found love. You know, I think this is number one, the greatest achievement is that I found a fantastic partner to share my life with that I am still in love with, and that supports me and inspires me to grow. I also think I am so lucky because I was able to have a child. Because I had my child late in my life and it was possible that I couldn't and I had my child. Also, he (François-Henri Pinault) had three other children, and I love children. I feel very lucky to have four children, a big family, and that I have a career…still. They told me I was never going to be able to work here, and for sure even for the women who are able to work here that they expire at age thirty."
Hayek isn't afraid to stand up for herself or others. She opened up to Town & Country Magazine about the racism she and her husband have faced. "A lot of people are very shocked that I married who I married. And some people are even intimidated now by me. But it's another way of showing racism. They can't believe this Mexican ended up in the life that she has, and they're uncomfortable around me."
Hayek talked about why she was drawn to acting to Town & Country Magazine. "I'm very hard to put in a box," Hayek says. "It's hard to understand who I am for them. And maybe it's the wrong thing, but to study human behavior is what attracts me to acting most. And I find I don't judge it—I just observe it."
In an interview with People, Hayek revealed some of her wellness secrets. She says that she worked with an expert to help with her posture and teach her restorative yoga. "She taught me to tone my muscles without clenching them. You relax them and focus on the parts that need to be used, but never with tension. If you're aware of your body, you'd be surprised by the effect it can have."
