Cincinnati Bearcats coach Wes Miller didn’t have to go far to make a major splash in his team’s 2023 recruiting class.
Rayvon Griffith, a 4-star in 2023 out of Cincinnati’s Taft High, announced his commitment to the hometown Bearcats on Sunday evening. A top-60 recruit and top-rated prospect in Ohio according to the 247Sports Composite Rating, Griffith chose UC over a finalist list including Kansas, UCLA, Alabama and Ohio State. If current rankings hold, he would be Cincinnati’s seventh-highest rated recruit of the 247Sports era, one spot ahead of Jarron Cumberland.
The rangy, 6-foot-7 wing represents a significant future addition for the Bearcats. Griffith, who emerged locally and on the grassroots circuit as a middle schooler, led Taft to an Ohio Division III state championship in March. He has been a priority target for Miller since he was hired last offseason and gives the second-year head coach an early tone setter for the 2023 class as a rebuilding Cincinnati transitions to the Big 12.

What Rayvon Griffith's commitment to Cincinnati means for the Bearcats
How big is Griffith’s commitment for Cincinnati?
Justin Williams, Cincinnati beat writer: It’s massive. A player of Griffith’s caliber is a notable get for the Bearcats regardless of hometown. But to keep a local prospect of Griffith’s talent, with a blue-blood studded finalist list, inside the city gates is a coup for UC, especially with the Big 12 looming and Miller working to establish his culture entering Year 2.
