WHEN Fox Sports boss Gary Burns went looking for a name for the new studio at Fox Sports' bright new headquarters, he wanted something "Churchillian".
And after ticking off names like "Gasnier, Beetson, Langlands", he said, Burns struck upon the name that fit the bill.
So last night Clive Churchill's widow Joyce and son Rodney opened the new studio, keeping alive the name that remains rugby league royalty, and will continue to do so.
"At the start of the season his name comes up ... his name comes up during the year ... he's never forgotten," Mrs Churchill said last night. "Never forgotten."
Studio A is officially the Clive Churchill Studio, which will house the majority of Fox Sports' NRL coverage, and like the Little Master himself, it is ahead of its time.
Virtual graphics, most never seen before in Australia, will highlight Fox Sports' NRL coverage this season, kicking off with NRL 360 tonight.
And Clive Churchill will be along for the ride.
"He has been working me overtime with all these presentations," Mrs Churchill said. "But I love it. I love it because he's not here."
More Coverage
With each new gesture Churchill lives on. And why wouldn't he; the Churchill fit is as perfect for rugby league as for Fox's new direction.
"During the war-torn years they were looking for heroes," Rodney said. "Dad was the tiny fullback from the coalfields from Newcastle.
"That related to the working class kind of guy."
