Chip and Joanna Gaines may have ended their popular HGTV show Fixer Upper, but that doesn’t mean they are done renovating homes. In fact, the couple is taking their reno game to a whole new level with their recent purchase of the historic – but rundown – Cottonland Castle in Waco, Texas.
Cottonland Castle is a 6,700-square-foot stone, German-style castle that took 23 years to build, with construction starting in 1890 and ending in 1913. It has many amazing features, including a 9-foot oak front door that weighs a whopping 400 pounds.

“The property is an iconic piece of Waco’s history, and while specific plans have not yet been determined, one thing is for certain: their efforts will focus on fully completing the home’s long overdue and well-deserved restoration,” said Magnolia spokesman John Marsicano.
The castle has been vacant for two decades, despite multiple attempts to purchase the home for renovation – including a few from Chip and Joanna.
Marsicano said that the couple has admired the property for a long time, and it is a “hallmark of the Castle Heights neighborhood.”
The Daily Mail is reporting that In addition to the massive front door, the property also features “Honduran mahogany mill-work, quarter sawn oak, and intricate diamond-paned windows.” The home also has eight fireplaces.
According to the local Waco Tribune-Herald, the castle had a list price of $425,000, but the actual sales price has not been revealed.
This new project is the latest in a long line of business ventures that the couple has been working on. Joanna is releasing a new children’s book next month and she also recently partnered with Anthropologie for a line of rugs and pillows. The couple is also planning a new lifestyle television network with Discovery, and they are opening a new Waco coffee shop next to their famous Silos that should be open by the end of the year.

They haven’t named the shop yet, but it is expected to be a full-service coffee bar that will also serve fresh pastries.
And, of course, Chip and Joanna Gaines are raising five children – Drake, 14, Ella Rose, 11, Duke, 10, Emmie Kay, 8, and Crew, 8 months.
