Busted have unveiled their new single ‘On What You’re On’, ahead of the release of their eagerly anticipated third album Night Driver on November 11.
Collaborating with Alex Metric (Charli XCX) to co-produce the single, ‘On What You’re On’ defines a slick new sonic direction for Busted. In fact, it is so far removed from the trio’s trademark pop-rock sound, that we would probably struggle to recognise the song as being a Busted track if we heard it on the radio.
However, this band has grown up and gone through a lot since the days of ‘Crashed The Wedding’, ‘Year 3000’, and ‘What I Go To School For’, therefore we can’t say that we’re too surprised by the change of sound. Busted previously demonstrated their new sound through ‘Coming Home’, the first track to be unveiled from Night Driver. It is evident that Busted have matured but have still held onto a bit of the cheekiness that we know and love them for. Their new electronic sound is hypnotic, and we’re quite frankly digging this new era of Busted.
The video, also unveiled today, was directed by Andrew Hines (Party Next Door, Big Sean, A$ap Ferg). It was shot in LA and features New York based performance artist Alexandra Marzella.
Having reunited last year after splitting in 2005, James, Matt and Charlie have over a decade of new experiences and influences behind them.
Charlie said, “We can’t wait for people to hear this song and be able to share what we have been working so hard on for the past twelve months.”
“As soon as we started making music it became very apparent that we all wanted to make exactly the same thing,” said Matt. “That’s what made it so easy. Once James got on the Juno-60 we were like, ‘this is the sound of our record, this is exactly the kind of record I wanna make’.”
“The last thing we wanted to do was try to recreate what we used to have,” said James. “It belongs to that time. All real artists evolve, all real artists try things, it’s unnatural not to.”
The new era of Busted is firmly here and James, Matt and Charlie are fully prepared to unleash the unexpected to the world. Night Driver is available to pre-order now, and is due for release on November 11.
