A beautiful like-new Jaguar XJ220 has surfaced and is likely to fetch almost half a million dollars at auction. The iconic 1990s supercar will be up for sale at the Bonham's Zoute Sale and this particular car is #33 of only 278 examples ever made. The XJ220 has been noted for its spaceship-like looks, so you could say that it looks and handles like something out of this world.
This XJ220 is certainly like new with less than 700 miles on the odometer and the original twin-turbo 3.5 liter Cosworth V6 engine intact. On the outside, this Jag has a nice burgundy colored paint scheme, while on the inside it features a beige leather with that classic 90s era black plastic finishing. Jaguar's XJ220 is certainly a classic ride, and this car is expected to sell from between $310 thousand and $470 thousand!
That may sound like a lot, but it is actually less than the base price of $580 thousand the XJ220 originally sold for. This two seat supercar was produced from 1992 to 1994. At one point it held the record for fastest production car with a top speed of 213.5 miles per hour. The XJ220 also held the Nurburgring production car lap record from 1992 all the way until 2000.
This two door coupe also has a five speed manual transmission and was actually developed by an informal group of Jaguar employees working in their spare time who wanted to create a modern version of the Jaguar 24 Hours of Le Mans racing cars from the 1950s and 1960s. The concept car debuted at the British International Motor Show in 1988. A specially built Jaguar XJ220 Pininfarina was even made for the Sultan of Brunei and his brother Prince Jefri!
Last year the owner of the last Jaguar XJ220 ever produced put it up for sale for $299,220 in Nashville, Tennessee. The car was the last of the 278 to be assembled and was only one of a dozen of these models in the United States. The XJ220 owned by the Sultan of Brunei was also auctioned off last year. The car stayed with the Royal Family until 2002 when it came back to England.
The news of this classic Jaguar going up for sale has to be music to car collectors' ears. This is a rare opportunity to get your hands on a classic Jaguar that does not become available very often.
